Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) was established in 1993, and promoted by the SDM Educational Trust, a non-profit educational organization that has been managing educational institutes for over 42 years. SDMIMD is committed to the Darmasthala principles of giving and righteousness, and emphasizes academic diligence.
SDMIMD has been regarded as one of the premier business schools in India, and is dedicated to management education and creating inspirational business leaders and entrepreneurs who will be successful in a changing, contemporary market. The institute has earned several A++ rankings from Crisil and Business India.
The SDM Institute for Management Development campus is located at the foot of Chamundi hills in Mysore, the third largest city in Karnataka, India. SDMIMD won the ARCHIDESIGN Award for the Best Institutional/Corporate Building Design in 2007 for its intricate and extensive campus architecture, which is paired beautifully with the surrounding landscape and the Chamundi Hill, which stands at 1062 meters tall.
Mysore is named the “Palace City” for its most famous landmark, Mysore Palace. The palace was once the home of Wodeyar Maharajas, and has a rich history and even more intricate embellishments that include stained glass, a plethora of mirrors, and gaudy colors. Every weekend, on national holidays, and through the Dasara celebrations, the palace is illuminated by tens of thousands of light bulbs, creating a beautiful display of the palace at night. The city is also characterized by its beautiful temples, zoos, restaurants full of delectable Indian dishes, lively bazaars, and charming architecture, all accessible by the city bus system.

Since SDMIMD is an advanced business school, this program is open only to graduate students from Mays Business School. The courses that each exchange student plans to take at SDMIMD must be approved by the student’s home university.
While studying at SDMIMD, the Post-Graduate Diploma Program (PGDM) is compiled from current industry practices, probing business case studies and designed to enable students to adapt to the challenges of the global business environment. The program is a uniquely designed training program which equips participants with up-to-date skills and techniques in the various areas of marketing, finance, management and many others. SDMIMD offers a wide range of courses for students to choose from all taught in English.
SDMIMD offers a dorm-like “hostel” to their students in which each student has a private, fully-furnished room, a community lounge/study area, recreational facilities, and a common dining area, known as the SDMIMD “Mess.” The students decide weekly on the menu for the Mess, which caters to around 300 people and mixes a variety of North and South Indian vegetarian cuisine.
SDMIMD promotes physical as well as spiritual and mental wellness, and takes student health very seriously. The SDMIMD Wellness Center offers yoga, aerobics, a hi-tech gym, and other activities.
One of the benefits of participating in a reciprocal exchange is their affordability. Overall costs are comparable to studying in College Station with the main difference in costs coming from travel related expenses and the exchange rate. Please keep in mind that because you are enrolled at A&M, your regular tuition and fees will be paid at A&M just as if you were taking classes on campus. Additionally, students will be provided with the necessary information for them to make arrangements for all other expenses.
As soon as you decide to participate in a study abroad program, you will want to look into the funding available.
- CIBS Reciprocal Exchange Scholarship
- Mays Business School MBA Scholarships
- The Study Abroad Fellowship
- International Education Fee Scholarship

“I would highly recommend studying abroad to anyone who has the opportunity to go. It has changed my life in so many different ways. I am much more independent, traveled, and cultured as a result of the fantastic experience. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
