Program Description:

2016-2017 Texas A&M Spring Leadership Exchange Program

There will be up to 12 participants from each campus traveling during their respective Spring Break. Once more, anticipated travel dates are March 3 – March 10, 2017 (TAMU-Q visits Bryan / College Station) and March 10 – March 17, 2017 (TAMU-CS visits Doha, Qatar). The planning committee strives for a diverse group of participants, representative of students at Texas A&M.
While participating departments are able to make their own selections, the planning committee will set standards for the departments for the caliber of student we would like to see participating in the program. The committee would also operate as a steering committee and support with implementation. While we wish to allow each participating department to make their own final decisions regarding selecting students, we offer the standards as a result of years of working with and molding the program in a way that can best benefit all those involved. In order for the students to engage in a truly transformative experience, these guidelines will help to select students who are able to engage in and participate fully with the content provided.

Departments are welcome to conduct their own selection process. However, we will require all students to submit applications by October 24th.  We will then make those applications available to participating departments to use in their respective selection processes. We also ask that participating departments complete their selections and submit their respective student representative(s) by November 7, 2016.

Most expenses associated with this program are covered by Texas A&M – Qatar’s Department of Student Affairs. However, due to budget cuts and restraints new to this year, this is changing. TAMU-Q is currently under a revision of how much they can, in fact, give to the program and thus more is being requested than before. Selected participants are responsible for supporting $750 of their trip expenses, plus any spending money. In previous years, many students have received support from various colleges and departments on campus. Interest free loans have also been historically available through the Memorial Student Center’s L.T. Jordan Institute for International Awareness. In cases where sponsorships are not available, the financial contribution may be reduced or waived in cases of hardship.

This program is currently not accepting applications.
